If you are one among us foodies, it’s always a wonder what we can try anew. However, If you’re looking to sink your teeth into something new and need a change from your average drinks and snacks, you’ve stumbled into the right place. Here we have seven new snack recipe ideas that you can try at home!
1) Baked smashed baby potatoes
Just as fun as this dish sounds, it is just as delicious. One can never go wrong with potatoes and this recipe your best bet for a crunchy potato snack. It is also healthy as compared to potato chips as there is no deep frying involved.
To make this, you would need:
- Baby potatoes- as many as you like
- Minced garlic
- Salt
- Pepper
- Oregano
- Piri Piri spice powder
- Butter
How to make:
Firstly, start by pre-heating the oven to 220C as you put your potatoes into a pot of boiling water
Cook the potatoes for about 15-18 minutes or until it is fully cooked.
Once the potatoes are done, toss them in a bowl with the butter, garlic, salt, pepper and the Piri Piri spice.
After that, place them on a baking tray lined with foil.
Slightly smash them with the back of a fork or the bottom of a tumbler (the latter is more satisfying in my opinion)
Bake the potatoes for 20-25 minutes until crispy.
2) Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Grilled cheese is the quintessential comfort food and an all-time favorite snacks. Paired with a milkshake or cola, it makes an unbeatable combination. To make it is quick and easy and hardly requires any effort. Above all, the best part of making grill cheese is that there are no rules to making it! For fans of heat like me, I like to spice it up with some finely chopped green chilies.
To make these, you would need:
- Slices of bread
- Cheese (It could be Cheddar, Brie, Mozzarella or regular processed cheese)
- Butter (as generous as you want to be with it)
- Finely chopped green chilies
Making it is as easy as eating it, just follow these steps:
Place your slice (or slices) of cheese on a slice of bread
Then spread the chillies evenly across the cheese
Complete the sandwich with another slice of bread
On a hot tava, drop a thick sliver of butter and place the sandwich on it
Apply some butter on the other side
Once one side is golden brown and crispy flip the sandwich to the other side
Remove once both sides are golden brown and you should have a sandwich with oozing molten cheese
3) Cheesy Pull-Apart Garlic Bread
If you love cheese and if you love butter, this dish is something you need to try. This is one of those snack recipe ideas that are quick to make and oh, so delicious!

To make this, you need:
- a loaf of bread
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- mozzarella cheese
- 4-5 cloves of minced garlic
Steps to follow:
Firstly, Preheat the oven to 180C
Prepare the bread by cutting squares into the bread however, be sure to not cut it all the way through.
After that, mix the butter with the minced garlic
Spread the butter into each crevice of the bread
Additionally, brush the top of the loaf with the butter
Stuff the crevices of the loaf with your cheese
Wrap the loaf in foil and then place it in the oven for 20 mins
4) Fried Idlis
If you have leftover Idlis, you’d be surprised with what you can make out of it. This is something my mother makes as a quick fix for a snack craving and is one of my personal favorite recipe ideas.
To make these, you would need:

All you need to do for this dish is to first cut the idlis into even slices then,
deep fry the idlis until they’re golden brown and that’s it!
They taste delicious paired with any dip.
5) Spicy Fried Cauliflower
This dish is the perfect accompaniment for a binge or a movie, and I bet you would scarf them down in no time as they are just that delicious.
To make this crispy, spicy treat you would need:
- 1 head of cauliflower
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup cornflour
- 1 cup milk
- chilli powder
- minced garlic
- salt
- black pepper powder
- panko breadcrumbs

Steps to follow:
Firstly, Cut the cauliflower into small florets and steam for 10 minutes
In a bowl, combine corn flour, red chili powder, black pepper powder, salt, minced garlic and milk in addition to the flour to make a smooth mixture
Once that’s prepared, coat the florets evenly in this prepared batter
After that, toss the coated florets in the bread crumbs.
Lastly, deep fry the cauliflower until golden brown
and there you have it!
6) Donut Holes
Who said snacks can’t be sweet? donut holes are just as satisfying as donuts and only bite sized and easier to munch on and is one of my go-to snack recipe ideas.
To make these you would need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cups milk
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 5 Tbsp cold butter
Steps to follow:
In a bowl, mix the flower, salt, sugar and baking powder
To this, add the butter in small portions and mix until the mixture forms a crumb-y texture
In addition to the mixture, pour the milk and mix well
Sprinkle flour on a flat surface and kneed the dough until smooth
After that, cut small pieces and roll them into balls
Deep fry the Dough balls in hot oil
Remove once they turn brown
Once you’re donut holes are cooled, you can enjoy them plain or tossed in a mixture of powder sugar and cinnamon. Or as I like to do, you can enjoy them dipped in nutella.
7) Korean Hot Dogs
The Korean hot dogs are all the fad on Instagram and is one of the most trending recipe ideas on the internet. As tempting as they look, they are just as easy to make. You can even play with several ingredients and create a variety of combinations
To make this scrumptious snack, you will need:
- 6 sausages and/or mozzarella sticks
- diced potatoes
- panko bread crumbs
- 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated white sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 125 ml fat free milk cold
- 1 large egg

Steps to follow:
Firstly, skewer your sausages and mozzarella sticks. You can also combine the two on one stick
To make the batter, you begin by mixing the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Mix to create an even mixture.
To this, add the egg and milk and whisk to make a thick batter. You can cool the batter in the refrigerator for a few minutes for better results
After that, dip the skewered sausage and cheese into the batter and make sure to coat it all over.
You can now dip it into the breadcrumbs or into the diced potatoes followed by breadcrumbs
Deep fry the skewers in hot oil
Remove them out of the oil once they’ve turned brown.
